While 104 abducted girls were released to their parents, Leah Sharibu was held back by the captives because she refused to renounce her Christian faith.
“Monday, May 14 , 2018, our daughter, Miss Leah Sharibu , will be 16 years . If she were here with us , we would have been celebrating her 16 th birthday with her . “She is not with us and all we can do is fast and pray for her as a family and I want to appeal to all Nigerians and other concerned people around the world to help us pray for her safety wherever she is and for her return as well. “President Buhari seemed to have forgotten about Leah but we know God who brought her forth will not forget her . Divorce and cases of separation in the entertainment industry always trend for long periods on social media. Celebrity marriages which are usually staged with great pomp and noise, tend to crash almost as fast as they click on. While some marriages have stood the test of time others have not been so lucky.
Here is a short list of some Nigerian marriages that failed and ranked high on Nigerian gossip sites in 2017. We're having higher hopes that such tales will not be heard in 2018. The bad memories of the past should stay there and not be dwelt upon.
 1. Mercy Ayigbe and Lanre Gentry
In April, photos of Mercy Aigbe's battered face spread all over social media platforms and newsmen that the marriage of star actress, Mercy Aigbe, to Lanre Gentry was about to hit the rocks.
It was reported that a fight between the couple led to Mercy's bleeding, after which she rushed to the office of the Lagos State Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Commissioner, Lola Akande, to report the…

Eyebrows are reaching hairlines as dead men appeared on the massive, and historical appointments made by President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday. The office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, announced the appointment of 209 board chairpersons and 1,258 board members on Friday. This is the largest single appointments made by the president since becoming president in 2015.
However, after carefully analyzing the names, amusing discoveries were made. At least three of those names might be those of people who died after Mr. Buhari was sworn in as president on May 29, 2015. About four other names are duplicated in more than one agency while some opposition politicians also got appointed.
‘DEAD PERSONS’ Francis Okpozo, believed to be the second republic senator that died in 2016, was appointed chairman of the Nigerian Press Council. The late ex-senator battled with an undisclosed ailment at a private hospital in Benin. The president in a statement by his spokesperson, Femi …

A lot has been said about the way and manner that the oil industry in Nigeria is being run, and not pleasant reviews have continued to pour in. In the previous year, Muhammadu Buhari, the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria declared himself the Honourable Minister of Petroleum. Imagine the uproar this announcement caused. Indeed, it was met with mixed feelings from Nigerians both home and abroad. Some felt he could do great things in the oil sector while others felt that his rigidity will not help at all. Eventually, this created a sentimental divide on a large scale. Nigerians said the President had appointed powers to the Hausa/Fulani more than other tribes and that from time, the minister of petroleum had always been from the south, where the oil derives. For some of us, time and performance were going to tell whether the president had made the right call.
The entrance of the Independent marketers into the scene relaxed high tension as petrol and other crude oil rudiments w…

Don't you just love Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie? I do! That lady is so gifted with words and the art of story telling. I have enjoyed every bit of her uploads and posts focused on her #WearNigerian project. Getting thrills from the stylish, totally fun side of the famous author.
Chimamanda shared a photo with her nieces Kamsi, Chisom and Amaka who are the brains and beauties behind the #WearNigerian campaign to which she captioned (the photo): My brilliant, kind, funny, lovely nieces who select and post my Project Wear Nigerian photos here, 16-year-old Kamsi and 20-year-old twins Chisom and Amaka. And me feeling seriously among."

It has been loud, it has been wild, it has been intense with all the electrifying feels of euphoria in the 2017 Calabar Carnival with the dance processions and much more. The Governor, Senator Ben Ayade and his wife, Linda Ayade drove in a red colored Lotus convertible while Nollywood actors like Larry Coldsweat, Zack Orji and Edward Osifu participated in the 2017 Carnival Calabar hot wheels event where over 2 dozen vintage, flashy and customized vehicles drove through the 12 Kilometer Carnival Calabar route. Also participating were the Irish and German teams. Sam Dede later joined in the event but appears more interested in the Bikers parade which kicks off after the Cars parade.
When we hear "Calabar Carnival", we think huge because it is the annual, the spectacular, the popular cultural festival that displays African culture and heritage by means of music, dressing, drama and other cultural creativities of talented persons. What's more? It's us, Nigerians owning th…

But the prince took time off from planning for th big day by becoming guest editor of Radio 4's th Today Programme. World heavyweight champion Joshua was one of Harry's big name guests along with former US President Barack Obama on Radio 4’s Today Programme where Prince Harry was guest editor. Photos were taken after the programme and British boxing hero Joshua took to twitter and sharing a photo he took with the Prince, the caption read: "Back to work this morning! Congrats on everything this year and no pressure on the R4 guest edit. "PS - need a best man?" The wedding is set down for 19th May, just after Joshua's planned unification fight with New Zealand's WBO world heavyweight Joseph Parker. Joshua is now one of the bigges…

Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker have finally agreed the terms for the much anticipated fight early next year
Joseph Parker's promoter David Higgins revealed that the purse split had been decided and both parties were happy with the deal.
Both teams agreed on a deal where Parker will receive between 30 to 35 percent of the fight purseafter prolonged negotiations on how the pot should be divided.
The New Zealander's  promoter, David Higgins of Duco Events, has confirmed that he has received a contractual offer from Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn that both sides have agreed upon.
Higgins said. “We’re really, really close. "We’ve agreed the ratio. The Joshua side gave a small concession, and we’ve agreed that the Parker side will get somewhere between 30 and 35 percent.”
Initially, Team Joseph Parker had asked for a minimum share of 35 percent  as “utterly non-negotiable” for the unification bout with Joshua.
But they have now come to a deal after months of back-and-forth negotiati…

Adebayo Shittu, Minister of Communications has declared with amusing confidence that despite the lies being told by leaders of the People's Democratic Party against President Muhammadu Buhari, many Nigerians still prefer his style of governance.
Mr Shittu said this in Ibadan while speaking with newsmen at the 50th birthday ceremony of a PDP chieftain in Oyo State, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde.
The minister, who said that Nigerians were neither fools nor ingrates, would appraise the president when he presented his score-card. He said those who drove Nigeria into a mess through corruption and mismanagement during the 16 years of PDP’s misrule were the ones now accusing President Buhari of non-performance.
To the PDP leaders, Shittu said Nigerians appreciated the accomplishments of the President in the areas of the fight against corruption and insurgency and uplifting agriculture, infrastructure, education and employment.
According to Mr Shittu, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC…

Huge Surprise at Davido's '30 Billion Concert'

After a phenomenal world tour that is being recorded as one of the greatest in the history of Africa, one of Nigeria's superstar, David gave an electrifying '30 Billion World Tour' in Lagos, December, 27th,2017 at the EKO Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.

Davido and Wizkid rocked the stage together as they performed "Manya".A pleasantly shocking thriller was presented to the fans last night. Mo'Hits crew which housed Don Jazzy, D'Banj, Wande Coal, Dr Sid, K-Switch, Ikechukwu and D'Prince before their spilt gave years ago used to be a favorite of Nigerians always hitting the airwaves.

George Weah, a Ballon d'Or title holder and retired footballer has won the elections in Liberia to become that country's 25th president.
The senator of Montserrado County defeated Vice-president Joseph Boakai, aged 73, in a landslide victory announced Wednesday morning. Mr Weah was once named Fifa World Player and winner of the much-coveted Ballon d'Or.
"I am deeply grateful to my family, my friends, and my loyal supporters who contributed to our campaign during this extremely long election season," Weah said on Twitter before the results were announced.
Weah will now replace Africa’s first female head of state, economist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. Liberia is a West African nation founded by freed American slaves and ever since, power is handed over from one democratically elected government to another.
Is this a revolution or what? Where young people get elected to be the first family. First France now Liberia. Who is next? Nigeria?!

Societal values are standards that help shape the society; people in society hold such standards in high regards and they tend to shape the way people think, behave and react to issues and situations around them. In her book, "Americanah", Chinamanda writes of a single lady who is over thirty years and is seen as  unserious, lacking focus, and is viewed with "corner eye" (in local pigin context), which is partial to disdain or disgust.
In Nigeria and Africa at large, emphasis has been placed on graduating with a 1st class degree, or getting a masters degree, it has in a way become a societal thing, anything short of that tags one as unserious or a failure. We forget to develop the social part of life, develop our inner talents or build life skills, without which one can hardly be complete.
Getting an education is good, important even but it's not everything. In the wake of the festive period, a friend of mine visited a home of family friends and during his vis…

"Making most of every opportunity" is a favorite term used by motivational speakers, teachers and life coaches and it would seem some  analysis and documentaries have been made on this very simple but broad topic.

Most individuals, governments and nations fail to use their full potentials. In Nigeria, every state has a slogan and for Benue State, it is "food basket of the nation." The state is a classic example of one who has woefully failed in terms of reaching it's full potential to change her status quo.
With several agricultural products available, government and individuals have failed to go further to add value to such products to get better value for it, to increase it's chance for a better life, we have vast lands of orchids but the fruits are not processed when ripe so automatically, they like up our streets and market places once they get bad. Mangoes, pawpaw, yams, tomatoes, etc to mention a few. Despite the siting of factories like Taraku Mills,…

People say, "politics is a dirty game and only those willing to get their hands dirty play." It is true that many have defined politics using these words, but how dirty can it be? Why is politics dirty, can it be clean?
Recently in a clear perspective, I discovered that politics has been described as dirty because it's what we have made of it, we have given politics the make-up and structure we desire. In order to fulfill selfish desires and all that green greed, politicians steal, misappropriate public funds and like dirty plates stacked in the sink, we refuse to wash them, thereby increasing the number of dirty politicians and leaders, like dirty plates that stay over night become difficult to wash, it has become so difficult to sanitize the dirty games. Can we even?
We have contributed in making politics dirty,  by receiving bribes, campaigning for the wrong candidate, not speaking out, not voting, etc. The bright future we ought to have as a nation has curled up in …

After the rage, calm returns. Now that some sanity has been restored to Bwari after Monday's violence, residents have been counting their losses even amidst the recorded number of deaths.
The Bwari main  market was burnt down as a result of the ethnic clash between Gbagi and Hausa youth which left at least three people dead, according to officials.
With tears in her eyes, Blessing Ezeh, a fashion designer in her late 30s, said, “all my life was in that shop. My money, my machines, my customers' clothes, everything got burnt." The big laces my customers are supposed to collect before the new year, childrens' clothes, childrens' school uniforms for next term are all gone. My life is empty right now.”
Sunny, a sales boy, however expressed thanks to God for His mercy on his employer. He said, “My oga (boss) has two shops, one big one and the other one is small but the fire only destroyed the small one completely. It did not affect the big one at all. Though we lost ‘plen…
