LEAH SHARIBU TURNS 16 TODAY, IN CAPTIVITY!!!

Leah Sharibu was among the abducted 109 girls of the Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi in Yobe State. The girls were abducted by the terrorist group, Boko Haram on February 19, 2018. Leah Sharibu who was aged fifteen at the time of the abduction in March 2018 turn 16 today, Monday. While 104 abducted girls were released to their parents, Leah Sharibu was held back by the captives because she refused to renounce her Christian faith.

JOSHUA WINS UNIFICATION FIGHT AGAINST JOSEPH PARKER

Anthony Joshua won the unification heavyweight division fight as he defeated Joseph Parker by unanimous decision at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
The three judges scored the fight 119-109, 118-110 and 118-110 as Joshua won the WBO heavyweight title, adding it to his IBF, WBA and IBO belts. It was a cautious fight, as neither boxers landed major shots capable of setting off an upset throughout the fight. 
And although the fight had a few moments of sparks that excited the fans briefly, most of the fight witnessed measured punches and counters.
The Referee, Giuseppe Quartarone got a lot of criticism over the fight, as he kept interrupting the fight instead of allowing the boxers to exchange during a lot of the action.
After the fight, Joshua called out WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder for another unification fight, where a win would make Joshua undisputed champion.

EDUCATE THE CHILD ON CULTISM

The Permanent Secretary, Osun State Universal Basic Education Board , Mr. Fatai Kolawole, speaking at a briefing held to herald the second edition of a cultural festival among schools in the state stated strongly his disapproval for cultism. He went further to list the pains that came with it. 
According to Kolawole, “Cultism is not a challenge in our schools in Osun State , but we are working to make sure that it does not spread here. We will not relax so that our children can remain focused on their goals. “Cultism is evil and it destroys lives but the ethos of Omoluabi is being taught in our schools and the pupils are imbibing it. We don ’t have the challenge of cultism, but we won’ t fold our hands and do nothing because of this .”
Activities such as traditional dance, ijakadi ( wrestling ), display of local drums , singing , poetry recitation and more will be part of the festival. 
Cultism does not make sense to me. It is condemnable to not educate your child or ward about the danger…

LAUDABLE ADVANCEMENTS AT EDO STATE UNIVERSITY

Two years after being established, Edo University, Iyamho houses an Anatomage Table. 
The Anatomage Table is the most technologically advanced anatomy visualization system on the market. It is both a virtual library of human and animal cadavers, as well as a clinical diagnostic tool by visualization of any Medical CT, CBCT or MRI scan.
According to Professor Emmanuel Aluyor, Vice Chancellor of the institution, is one of the four medical training institutions in Nigeria with power lab system for teaching Physiology and Pharmacology. NOUN SOON TO OFFER MASTERS DEGREE IN LAW

There are two positive developments the National Open University of Nigeria is currently working towards achieving. 
First is a programme for Masters' Degree in Law.  Second, NOUN graduates may participate in the National Youth Service Corps.  
Vice-Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Abdalla Uba Ahmed, revealed this in Owerri, Imo state, while visiting one of the study centres of the university, as part of his advocacy campaign.
According to Ahmed, NOUN management would continue with the battle over the issue of Law School and the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) participation of the NOUN graduates.
Ahmed further said the readiness of the university to start the masters’ degree programme was part of the expansion drive, assuring that all pending issues with the Law School and NYSC would soon be resolved immediately the NOUN Act was signed by the President.

LEAH SHARIBU'S PARENTS IN AGONY

While President Buhari has assured that the 15 year old Leah won't be left behind.

Leah's mother, Mrs Sharibu is utterly broken and no mother should suffer the trauma of having her child held captive in the den of notorious terrorists. Speaking with tears streaming down her face, Mrs Sharibu said,  “My heart was broken on Wednesday morning when I searched through the released girls and could not set my eyes on my dear daughter, Leah.”  Mrs. Sharibu fainted after receiving the news that Leah, her first child and only daughter, was not among those released.

FAYOSE APPROVES SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS IN EKITI

For the love of education, the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has approved the 2017/2018 Bursary and Scholarship awards to be given to deserving students.
N45 million will be broken down into thirty places for thirty overseas PhD students, each will get N1.5 million ; N27.6 million will be shared for 184 Law students, each will receive N150,000, and N27 million will be broken down to N60,000 for 450 undergraduate students. 
In a statement by Honorable Jide Egunjobi, the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, “The first tranche is scholarship for 450 under-graduate and 15 physically challenged students. “Other tranches would follow as soon as the disbursement for the first tranche is is completed.”

LEAH SHARIBU a young Christian girl is still being held captive by Boko Haram. This is in spite of the release of all the others that were abducted alongside Leah.
A lot of people from within and outside the country have been pressuring the Federal Government to ensure that Leah comes back home. 
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Chairman, Ondo State Chapter, Ayo Oladapo, in a statement released said,  "The news of the release of the Dapchi girls is a good development. We rejoice with the parents of the returned girls, Yobe State and federal government as well as all Nigerians. "However, it is painful to note that Leah Sharibu the only girl that still remains with the Boko Haram is said to be the only lady that refused to renounce her Christian faith. DAPCHI GIRLS RELEASED

The girls that were abducted have been released. 
Exactly 30 days after the abduction of 110 girls from Government Girls Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State, by a group of men suspected to be members of the insurgent group,  Boko Haram, over 100 girls have been released. 

The members from the team of abductors who brought the girls back to Dapchi were said to have been preaching to the girls.  An eyewitness who wouldn't disclose identity said, “They were confident and unfazed. As they ordered the girls to alight from the vehicles, they gathered them in one place and held the brief preaching session”, the source said. “They asked them to return to the path of Allah and stop pursuit of Western Education. “They told them that they released them because they wanted to give them another chance of returning to Allah​”.

JAMB RELEASES 2018 RESULTS, WITHHOLDS 111,981

-Foreign candidates to write in April 
-350 results of blind candidates to be released soon

While the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board released 1,502 ,978 results on Tuesday, 111,981 were held back for further screening.
Speaking, JAMB’s Head of Public Affairs, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said that, “After viewing all CCTV footages during the conduct of the 2018 UTME and considering reports from our supervisors, monitors and other independent Nigerians , JAMB has released the results of 1 ,502 ,978 candidates . “1 ,652 ,825 candidates had indicated interest in the examination by registering for the 2018 UTME. Also, 112 ,331 results are yet to be released out of which 350 are the results of the blind candidates which would be released soon and 111, 981 results withheld for further screening.
“The figures above exclude foreign candidates whose examination will be conducted in April.”

MAYWEATHER TO FIGHT AT THE UFC

Floyd Mayweather has shown interest in fighting at the UFC as he has made plans to submit the paperwork to get license as a pro MMA fighter. 

"Everything takes time. Eventually we're going to apply for this license, and hopefully we can fight."

TOLL GATES TO BE STANDARDIZED ALLOVER NIGERIA- FASHOLA

The Federal Government is making a major move towards standardising toll gates around the country.
While speaking at News Agency of Nigeria's Forum, Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola said, “We are also working to overcome some of the problems of the past, accountability and transparency in the operations and management. “And we think that technology provides us an opportunity to overcome those problems. “So we want to standardise all of that, then we have sent our officers out because we have revolved the design actually, what we want the toll plazas to look like. “In terms of design, quality of materials, cost because we want to issue bids for people to come and bid for them. “So that, when we are evaluating the bids, there can be proper evaluation because we are standardized."

INDEFINITE STRIKE HITS IBB UNIVERSITY, NIGER STATE

ASUU, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Niger State has gone on an indefinite strike.
Before now, the body had demanded that the State Government, owner of the institution make the N500 million payment for accumulated hard earned allowances, improvement of infrastructure on campus and general welfare of staff and students which according to the union, "are nothing to write home about".
An ultimatum was given to the State Government to pay up after the union was told to forget about the N150 million. The State Government said it could only pay N350 million. ASUU rejected this proposal because this debt was not incurred by the current administration. For this reason, the N150 will forever remain "untenable since government is a continuum".
Dr Salau Lawal, Chairman of ASUU, IBB University said, the "end of the seven day warning strike embarked upon by our members" has resulted in the current indefinite strike.

BUHARI MAY NOT SIGN AFRICAN UNION TRADE AGREEMENT

President of Nigeria, Muhammadu  Buhari might not sign the African Trade Agreement. The President was to attend an African Union Summit in Kigali, Rwanda but due to controversies surrounding the purpose of the journey, he had to cancel. 
The spokesperson for Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tope Elias-Fatile said that Mr President cancelled his trip in order “to allow more time for input from Nigerian stakeholders”.
The Summit is to create an enabling environment to allow free trade among all countries that sign, the "African Continental Free Trade Area". However, the Nigeria Labour Congress strongly disapproves the move, which the body says may affect the nation’s manufacturing sector and lead to loss of jobs. On the other hand, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) had approved of the idea. 
The first advanced team of the president had already travelled to Kigali on Friday but have been asked to return home.

FOUR COUNTRIES TO ASCEND FROM LEAST DEVELOPED TO DEVELOPED COUNTRIES - UNITED NATIONS

According to a UN expert committee, four countries will experience a shift from developing to developed. Changing status!
Chairman of the Committee for Development Policy (CDP), Mr Jose Ocampo, has said that “this is an historic occasion.” He revealed that only five countries had graduated since the UN established the LDC category in 1971.
The four countries are Bhutan, Kiribati, Sao Tome and Principe and the Solomon Islands.  According to the UN Committee, these countries have increased national earning power and improved access to health care and education, making them eligible to exit the group of least developed countries (LDCs). For a country to 'graduate', it must experience two of three criteria set by the UN which include: health and education targets; economic vulnerability; and gross national income per capita.

IN NIGERIA, OVER 27 MILLION PEOPLE CANNOT VOTE

Due to non-provision of special voting materials by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, 27.3 million disabled Nigerians cannot vote.

Executive Director of the Inclusive Friends Association (IFA), Mrs. Grace Jerry announced this saying, “The amendment of Section 56 (2) to make provision of braille or tactile ballots and off-site voting mandatory will help increase the participation of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the electoral process. Beginning with the 2018 Appropriation Act, the National Assembly should regularly provide funds in the national budget for braille and tactile ballots, accessible voting cubicles, written instructions and sign language interpreters to enable PWDs to participate effectively in pre-election and Elections Day processes.”
The National Assembly was called upon to make an amendment to the Electoral Act to ensure that the voting rights of people with disabilities are protected.
