BUHARI MAY NOT SIGN AFRICAN UNION TRADE AGREEMENT

President of Nigeria, Muhammadu  Buhari might not sign the African Trade Agreement.
The President was to attend an African Union Summit in Kigali, Rwanda but due to controversies surrounding the purpose of the journey, he had to cancel.

The spokesperson for Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tope Elias-Fatile said that Mr President cancelled his trip in order “to allow more time for input from Nigerian stakeholders”.

The Summit is to create an enabling environment to allow free trade among all countries that sign, the "African Continental Free Trade Area". However, the Nigeria Labour Congress strongly disapproves the move, which the body says may affect the nation’s manufacturing sector and lead to loss of jobs.
On the other hand, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) had approved of the idea.

The first advanced team of the president had already travelled to Kigali on Friday but have been asked to return home.

Editor's note
It is noteworthy that such plans by the African Continent is imminent and should therefore be taken as a wake up call to all the sleeping giants; top of which is Nigeria. Economics of scale will definitely lead to job losses for feeble nations who have no viable manufacturing base but give great gains to countries that have over time built a robust manufacturing economy (that are usually powered by deliberate industrial revolutions). It is therefore safe to assert that the chickens (of wastes, recklessness, and sheer abuse of power and government funds over several decades) have now come home (upon Nigeria) to roost!!!

Way Forward:
  1. PROVIDE UNINTERRUPTED ELECTRICITY POWER SUPPLY to stimulate the ailing economy even at the most basic level of production e.g welder, barber, eateries etc
  2. ENSURE THE REVAMP OF THE EDUCATIONAL SECTOR to develop the necessary manpower for quality production and development
  3. BASIC HEALTHCARE COVERAGE for all citizens starting with the most vulnerable of the society.

All these, if achieved, even in phases, would position the country to take its rightful place with a timeline of about 5 years from now.

NIGERIA SHOULD BY NOW BE AWARE THAT SHE EITHER SHAPES UP FAST OR BE TRODDEN UPON IN THE NEW NORMAL FOR THE WORLD'S EMERGING ECONOMIES.
