Of the 106 rescued, two girls who happened to be there at the time of rescue were also taken to safety in Maiduguri by the Army.

While speaking in Abuja to reporters, Minister of Information, Mr Lai Mohammed said, the girls were released unconditionally “No money changed hands."
He further said, ”For the release to work, the government had a clear understanding that violence and confrontation would not be the way out as it could endanger the lives of the girls, hence a non-violent approach was the preferred option.

However, there were reports on TVC News Nigeria that those released consist 105 girls and 1 boy, and that about five of the abducted girls may have died from trauma and or exhaustion, while a girl said to be a Christian was held back on religious grounds.
