FOUR COUNTRIES TO ASCEND FROM LEAST DEVELOPED TO DEVELOPED COUNTRIES - UNITED NATIONS

According to a UN expert committee, four countries will experience a shift from developing to developed. Changing status!

Chairman of the Committee for Development Policy (CDP), Mr Jose Ocampo, has said that “this is an historic occasion.” He revealed that only five countries had graduated since the UN established the LDC category in 1971.

The four countries are Bhutan, Kiribati, Sao Tome and Principe and the Solomon Islands.
According to the UN Committee, these countries have increased national earning power and improved access to health care and education, making them eligible to exit the group of least developed countries (LDCs).
For a country to 'graduate', it must experience two of three criteria set by the UN which include:
health and education targets;
economic vulnerability;
and gross national income per capita.

A member of CDP, Diane Elson, a professor at the University of Essex in the United Kingdom, said,  “The success of the countries that are graduating reflects things like the improvement of the health and the education of the population, which extends to rural women, and the increase in incomes in the country, which extends to rural women.”

The UN Committee has however emphasised that these countries will need international support because they remaine vulnerable to external shocks, including the impact of climate change, currently evident in Pacific Island states such as Kiribati.

According to the UN Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, there are 47 Least Developed Countries in the world, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States.
The majority, 33, are in Africa, while 13 can be found in the Asia-Pacific region, and one is in Latin America.

In the 47 years of the LDC category’s existence, only five countries – Botswana, Cabo Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Maldives and Samoa – had graduated.
Two more countries, Vanuatu and Angola, will possibly graduate in the next three years.
While Nepal and Timor-Leste met the criteria, they were not recommended for graduation at this time. This is due to economic and political challenges.

According to Ocampo, that decision would be deferred to the next CDP triennial review in 2021.

DEONTAY WILDER AND ANTHONY JOSHUA, COULD THIS BE IT?

"Wilder is going to be getting a contract from us ASAP," Hearn said. "It's obviously the fight we want. There is a lot of sorting out to do for this fight, but great news that in principle he seems to be on board for the idea of coming to the UK for the fight. We're going to be dealing with it and we're going to be making sure he gets the relevant paperwork."

Wilder tweeted : "The $50M offer for him to fight me next in the U.S. is still available. Today I even agreed to their offer to fight Joshua next in the UK. If he prefers the fight in the UK, the ball is in their court. It's up to them to choose."

Not long after, we got a picture from Joshua on twitter with the caption "getting ready to rumble". Everybody assumes he is talking about the proposed fight that will turn reality soon.

Wilder's co-manager Shelly Finkel fed us some juicy bits, "We have agreed to the terms that Eddie has put out to us for a fight in the U.…
