Ambassador Peters Emuze of Nigeria has been elected to the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR).
Emuze joined the very competitive race, beating 6 candidates who came before him. Candidates from Algeria, Sudan, Niger, Uganda, Cameroon and Mauritius had been campaigning a  year before the elections but Nigeria’s candidate, Emuze entered the race barely two months to the election.
In the end, Cameroon withdrew at the last minute while Mauritius’ candidate defeated Algeria’s in a run-off to clinch the second seat for Africa.

He will now represent the African continent on the panel for the next four years, from 2019 to 2022.

Speaking was Nigeria’s Ambassador/Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Samson Itegboje, who said “The victory has raised our profile on the international stage. I don’t think there are many countries that can pull such outing, two months to the election.
“We can call it a miracle but it was a result of hard work, strategy and good relations. Also, we presented the best, as our candidate has got the required experience including being the former Charge d’Affaires at the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the UN Offices in Geneva.’’

Peters Emuze :
“Nigeria long signed the treaty and that means Nigeria is ready to comply with various international human rights instruments as a responsible member of the international community.
“It is also fulfilling one of its foreign policy options. Nigeria is also in tune with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Charter and the African Human Rights Charter. So, Nigeria cannot be aloof to these issues of human rights because they are contemporary, modern times. Nigeria has always believed in the covenants of the United Nations with regards to human rights.’’

Emuze is a retired career diplomat for 33 years. He rose to become a Special Grade Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served as Head of Mission at Nigeria’s Permanent Mission in Geneva.
He was President, Conference on Disarmament and Coordinator of the African Group of Ambassadors on World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), leading to the establishment of WIPO offices in Nigeria and Algeria.

CESCR is the body of 18 independent experts that monitors countries’ compliance with the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights of citizens by its States parties.

The committee was established under ECOSOC Resolution 1985/17 of May 28, 1985, to carry out the monitoring functions assigned to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

While returning from the New Year's service, some female christians were raped. This announcement was made by Professor Timothy Opoola, Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN), Kwara State Chapter.

"Wilder is going to be getting a contract from us ASAP," Hearn said. "It's obviously the fight we want. There is a lot of sorting out to do for this fight, but great news that in principle he seems to be on board for the idea of coming to the UK for the fight. We're going to be dealing with it and we're going to be making sure he gets the relevant paperwork."

Wilder tweeted : "The $50M offer for him to fight me next in the U.S. is still available. Today I even agreed to their offer to fight Joshua next in the UK. If he prefers the fight in the UK, the ball is in their court. It's up to them to choose."

Not long after, we got a picture from Joshua on twitter with the caption "getting ready to rumble". Everybody assumes he is talking about the proposed fight that will turn reality soon.

Wilder's co-manager Shelly Finkel fed us some juicy bits, "We have agreed to the terms that Eddie has put out to us for a fight in the U.…
